Your Checklist

What to Bring

  • Chronic medication in original packaging

  • Comfortable daytime clothes
  • Your own toiletries
  • ±R120 for the group therapy manual
  • Phone airtime and small change

Medical Aid & Fees

Our Case Managers arrange your authorization and liaise with your medical aid directly. You’ll receive separate accounts from your psychiatrist, psychologist and other practitioners.

Some plans require pre-authorization or a co-payment (for example, Discovery Keycare and Momentum Custom). We will explain anything that applies to you before admission.

Length of Stay

Every recovery is different. Your stay depends on your individual progress and cooperation, the guidance of your therapeutic team, and the benefits available on your medical aid.

Common Questions

Clear answers to common questions about admission, treatment, medical aid, and what to expect at Mcare Optima.

Can I have visitors during my stay?
Visitors aren’t received inside the hospital, but your psychiatrist may grant a pass-out to the park. Parcels can be delivered to security.
Can I go home over the weekend?
Weekend leave isn’t granted, so that your programme can stay consistent and supportive throughout.
What happens on discharge day?
Please arrange to leave before 12:00 and hand in any keys at Reception on your way out.
Do I need to sort out my medical aid myself?
No — our case managers handle authorisation for you and stay in contact with your fund throughout your stay.
